Dark late November clouds were unleashing a cold windy rain all night. I hadn't slept well and wasn't feeling motivated to do anything at all. I dragged myself out of the house and down the road to Butterfly Beach to check the surf. The weatherman told me to expect more rain throughout the morning but he was wrong. A clearing wind brought morning sunshine that illuminated the cliff and sparked some inspiration that grew as my coffee kicked in. For a number of reasons I knew I wouldn't be painting that weekend, but later found that I was also wrong.
