The little northern California town of Point Arena is a destination few ever experience. Its about 3.5 hours north of San Francisco on HWY One and there isn't much happening there. I lived in SF for six years back in the early 90's and would go to Point Arena a few times a year for the surf. One thing I never did was drive the extra five miles northwest of the town to the light house. Last spring I finally drove out there in the early am after some uncomfortable car camping and made a painting of the rugged point. Other than a few families of native dear and a couple of camper vans of non native tourists I enjoyed some blustery solitude that may have been a once in a lifetime experience.
